O-Train Loss of Power - Saturday, January 22, 2022

At approximately 7:00 AM on Saturday, January 22, some of the trains in service on O-Train Line 1 experienced a loss of power in the eastern portion of the rail line. As a precautionary safety measure and according to standard operating procedures, five trains came to a stop along the line. As the investigation and repairs are ongoing, these trains will remain stopped until they can be safely removed from the line. Any customers onboard the stopped trains were able to exit safely at a station.

Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) has deployed technicians to assess the line. Based on initial inspections, it appears the extended period of very cold temperatures effected the overhead catenary line impacting power to trains.

As part of our standard operating procedure, OC Transpo implemented plans to maintain service for customers. Three trains are currently providing service approximately every 15 minutes between Tunney’s Pasture and Hurdman stations. R1 bus service has been implemented between Hurdman and Blair stations. Buses are running approximately every 5 minutes.

O-Train Line 1 service has been restored across the full line from Tunney’s Pasture to Blair Station. R1 bus service has ended. Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) has inspected and made repairs to the catenary system in the east end of the line and conducted additional precautionary inspections of the entire system as well as the trains. The City's top priority remains providing a safe service for our customers.
