Orléans South-Navan Community Update | August 8th, 2025

Councillor's Message

A huge thank you to all those who came out to my 3rd Annual Community BBQ at Millennium Park! Despite it being a sizzler weather-wise, it was a record crowd.

I am so grateful to have connected with so many of you.

A special thanks to Monkey Rock Music for joining us - a true highlight for all the kiddos in attendance and all the organizations that participated in showing what they do best. A big shoutout to Kiwanis Eastern Ottawa as well for grilling up hundreds of hot dogs and handing out drinks!

It was such a pleasure to cut the ribbon and officially open the 78th edition of the fair on Thursday night.

The Navan Fair is back this weekend, on until this Sunday, August 10. This year’s theme is “Muddy Boots and Country Roots.”

Come experience the amazing community spirit of Navan for yourself this weekend.

The Cumberland Township Agricultural Society is pleased to offer FREE shuttle service provided by M.L. Bradley Bus Lines. Round trips from Orleans to Navan and return. This is the best way to get to the fair, and the shuttle runs frequently all day!

I will share in advance that there will be very limited street parking available and limited paid parking sports available.

For more information and to plan your trip, please visit here.

See you at the fair!

Phase two of the Navan Road closure starts this upcoming Tuesday

Starting Tuesday, August 12 until Friday, August 29, phase two of the Navan Road closure will begin. This is the shortest—but more restrictive—closure of the project, as it involves the complete shutdown of both the Pagé/Renaud intersection and the access at Falsetto/Navan that was once open during the first phase of the closure.

Vehicular access from all directions will be fully restricted during this time on Navan from Falsetto to Renaud, and drivers will need to follow the detour plan provided. You will not be able to travel south-east down Navan Road from the roundabout at Brian Coburn to Renaud, nor north/south on Pagé Road in the triangle between Navan and Renaud, or enter the access at Falsetto/Navan.

Local access only to all homes and businesses before Falsetto within the small closure segment will be maintained throughout the construction period. Please continue to support our local small businesses during this time. Detours remain in place via Brian Coburn and Mer Bleue.

OC Transpo has confirmed that there will be detours for buses, bus stop impacts, and there may be delays to bus service in the area. Detour information is already available on their alerts page, and their Mobile Operations team will be actively monitoring service starting Tuesday to respond to any emerging issues.

A reminder that this closure is part of a major infrastructure project supporting the development at the corner of Brian Coburn Boulevard and Navan Road—entirely separate from Eastboro and unrelated to Ashcroft Homes.

I appreciate that road closures are never ideal. Please plan ahead and allow extra time while travelling through the area. Thank you for your patience as we work through this necessary construction

Stage 2 LRT road and ramp closures at Trim Road and Highway 174 this weekend

Stage 2 LRT crews will be performing milling, iron adjustments and final paving on Trim Road at Highway 174 this weekend.

To complete the work, Trim Road south of the Highway will be closed from the lights at Highway 174 to the northernmost roundabout on Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10 from 6:30 am – 5 pm each day. Both on-ramps from northbound Trim Road will be closed, as well as the Highway 174 westbound off-ramp to Trim Road north of the Highway. Duty Officers will be in place to direct traffic on Trim Road southbound north of the Highway to the Highway 174 westbound on-ramp.

The detours are as follows:

  • Motorists travelling westbound on Highway 174 looking to access Trim Road will exit at Tenth Line Road.

  • Motorists north of the Highway in the Trim Road area looking to travel eastbound on Highway 174 will travel to the Tenth Line Road interchange where they can access eastbound Highway 174.

  • Motorists south of the Highway in the Trim Road area looking to travel eastbound on Highway 174 will either take Old Montreal Road to Cameron Street, or they can access eastbound Highway 174 at the Tenth Line Road interchange.

  • Motorists south of the Highway in the Trim Road area looking to travel westbound on Highway 174 will travel westbound on St. Joseph Boulevard to Tenth Line Road where they can take westbound Highway 174.

Ongoing closures due to critical infrastructure work across Orléans South-Navan

Here’s a round-up of construction impacts around Ward 19:

🚧Dunning Road Closure (Régimbald to Giroux)

Work on the Dunning Road culvert replacements is moving along faster than expected. Based on progress by crews so far, the road is now expected to re-open ahead of schedule, with a target opening by the end of next week.

Dunning Road, from Régimbald Road to Giroux Road, will remain closed until then.

🚧Innes & Lamarche

Construction continues on important infrastructure servicing in the Orléans Village area to support the Caivan and Lépine subdivisions, as well as the future traffic signal at Innes and Lamarche.

Hydro Ottawa and Caivan crews are servicing 245 and 275 Lamarche via portion of Innes and Lamarche. Lépine will follow right behind Caivan with servicing for their 240 and 270 Lamarche subdivision, and then infrastructure work for the signalization of Innes and Lamarche is scheduled to begin mid-August, with full signalization completion expected and targeted by mid-November 2025.

On Lamarche Avenue, residents can expect the west sidewalk to be closed and one lane of traffic to be reduced with flaggers in place to help manage traffic flow. On Innes Road, there will be no sidewalk or lane closures, as work will take place within the boulevard and won’t impact traffic.

Work may occur in tandem on both Lamarche and Innes, but no weekend work is planned for this specific phase of construction.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as both servicing takes place for new homes, and critical work for the much-needed signalization happens.

🚧Sarsfield Road Bridge Replacement

The bridge on Sarsfield Road, about 1.1 km east of Dunning Road, is now closed for a full replacement.

It’s served us well but has reached the end of its service life. The new bridge will be wider and continue to accommodate two lanes of traffic. Local access is being maintained for the four farms in the area, but through traffic is detoured. The work is expected to continue until mid-November 2025.

🚧Roundabout Work at Navan & Milton

Utility relocation work has begun at the Navan and Milton intersection in preparation for a new roundabout. Enbridge, Bell, Rogers and Hydro One are all on-site moving infrastructure to make way for the new layout. While the roads remain open during this phase, there are off-peak single-lane closures—so please drive carefully. Construction of the roundabout is expected to begin in August, and this project has been shaped by valuable input from local farmers, truck operators and residents through multiple public sessions.

🚧Overnight Full Closure of Brian Coburn Boulevard (Esprit to Portobello)

To complete the sidewalk and drain infrastructure upgrade work that has already taken place, the final phase of this project requires one overnight full closure of a small section of Brian Coburn Boulevard from Esprit Drive to Portobello Boulevard.

Operations will consist of milling, grading, paving, and ditching. The road will be closed from 6 pm on Wednesday, August 20 until 6 am on Thursday, August 21. Detours are in place.

I know it’s disruptive, so thank you for your continued patience as we push forward on these much-needed infrastructure upgrades and road rehabilitation projects.

More pop-up freezie party events to take part in!

It’s been such a joy connecting with residents at my pop-up freezie events this summer! These casual, family-friendly gatherings are a great way to meet neighbours, share feedback, and enjoy a cool treat on a hot day.

We kicked things off on July 29 at Bradley Ridge Park, where it was great to see so many young families out enjoying the splash pad. On August 4, Ouellette Park was buzzing with activity—thanks to everyone who stopped by for a chat and a freezie!

I’m looking forward to the fun continuing with our next stops: Provence Park on August 12 and August Park on August 13. I hope to see you there!

Winning CBC Ottawa’s All in a Day “Ward Off” showdown

Last Monday I took part in CBC All in a Day’s “Ward Off” showdown against fellow Councillors Jeff Leiper and Riley Brockington — a summer-long scavenger hunt to see who knows their ward best!

In honour of last week’s Canadian Track & Field Championships, our mission was to find something “worthy of an award” (excluding people). We had just under an hour to criss-cross our wards and land on one final submission to be judged.

Now… no easy feat for Ward 19. At 400 square kilometres, going up against Kitchissippi (24 km²) and River Ward (40 km²) meant covering serious ground. But as I told Councillor Leiper: “More space means ‘more room for activities!”

I set out to highlight both the suburban and rural gems that make Ward 19 shine (too many to choose from!).

Here’s what I came up with:

  • Arguably the city’s best splash pad at Millennium Park — peep the pirate bucket!

  • World-class Canadian crops — the pride of the region!

  • Domaine Perrault Winery — local, delicious, producing standout cold‑climate varietals!

  • The iconic Clydesdales, from the family behind the Guinness World Record 50-horse hitch, celebrating its 30th year!

  • The Ottawa-Carleton Plowing Match is just around the corner, featuring some of the city’s most talented plowers!

  • Let’s hear it for Dairy Farmers of Canada! Internationally recognized for sustainability & innovation!

  • The Aline-Chrétien Health Hub, already an award-winner for its stunning design!

  • And finally, my official submission: The Miracle League of Ottawa — Ottawa’s first accessible baseball diamond and the city’s largest accessible park! A true symbol of community, inclusion, and impact.

A big thank you to former CBC journalist Joanne Chianello for judging, and I’m thrilled to say I was crowned the champion!

Huge thanks to CBC All in a Day for organizing this incredibly fun challenge — and to my worthy competitors for giving it their all.

Waste less. Eat smart. Save money.

The City has partnered with Love Food Hate Waste to launch a new campaign to help you save money and cut down on food waste.

Reducing food waste was identified as a priority by residents during the development of the Solid Waste Master Plan. This campaign is one of 50 actions in the plan that will guide the City towards more sustainable waste management.

Did you know the average Canadian household throws away approximately $1,300 worth of food every year? While some food waste—like bones, peelings and eggshells—is unavoidable, a staggering 63 per cent of food that gets thrown out could have been eaten. That includes leftovers, spoiled produce and those forgotten items at the back of the fridge.

The good news? Reducing food waste at home is easier than you think. With just a few small changes to how you plan, use, and store your food, you can make a big difference.

Visit ottawa.ca/FoodWaste to get food saving tips and recipes.
