Important info on downed trees and clean-up/collection
The City’s Forestry Services has received thousands of requests for service since Wednesday. Mature neighbourhoods with larger trees appear to have been the most affected.
Staff are triaging calls and prioritizing downed trees and broken/hanging limbs that are blocking streets or may otherwise pose a hazard to residents or property. Once hazards and streets are cleared, staff and contractors will address broken limbs, non-hazardous removals, re-inspections, pruning and brush/wood cleanup.
Tree debris, branches and brush should be placed at the curb for chipping or collection, separate from non-organic waste and tied with twine in bundles, if possible. Please do not stack or lean branches, limbs or brush on trees, utility poles or other structures, and keep curbside waste materials at least 1.5 metres away from fire hydrants.
Starting today, tipping fees at the City’s landfill site at the Trail Waste Facility are being temporarily waived for those with tree-cuttings, brush and branches due to the storm.
Trail Waste Facility hours:
- Good Friday (Friday, April 7) until 5 pm
- Easter Monday (Monday, April 10) from 9 am to 5 pm
- Saturday, April 15 from 8 am to 4 pm

Free trees!
South Nation (SNC) and Raisin Region (RRCA) Conservation Authorities are pleased to once again partner with municipalities like the City of Ottawa to distribute free trees to residents through Community Free Tree Giveaways this spring. A great initiative for our community which has seen such devastation to our tree canopy!
SNC will be planting over 200,000 trees throughout the region this spring. If you're interested in receiving a bundle of 5 tree seedlings (same species) - fill out the form here.
Route 228 will service Chapel Hill South Park and Ride A positive update for all those who have been frustrated by the inefficient routes offered at the Chapel Hill South Park and Ride. After working directly with OC Transpo staff, I am happy to announce that route 228 will be modified to service the Chapel Hill Park and Ride, providing a direct route from the Park and Ride to the Blair LRT station in the am and pm peak periods, starting April 23. I hope those commuting downtown from Orléans South will find this an attractive transportation option, and I look forward to your feedback. While this is a small step in the right direction to increase transit efficiency in our ward, OC Transpo will also be conducting a Strategic Route Review this year and has committed to starting with our ward. This is as a result of our advocacy as a community –thank you! I look forward to participating in this review as I continue to call for accessible, reliable, and efficient transit for our community. OC Transpo is also seeking your feedback through surveys about reliability, security, ease of use and other service factors. A big thank you to all the dedicated community volunteers in Orléans South – Navan who maintain our outdoor rinks every year. I know this year was even more difficult given the challenging weather we’ve had.
It was great to celebrate you and all your hard work last Wednesday night with a pizza party at François Dupuis! I look forward to working with the community associations again when its time to prep for the 2024 season, but for now, I think we’re all ready for spring 😊

The City of Ottawa has received a Site Plan Control application to develop a four storey residential care facility with space for 256 residents.

Cumberland brings home the Bradley!
A huge thank you to all those who were involved with organizing the Bradley Cup Charity Hockey Tournament, including the volunteer committee, Navan Lions and Navan Women’s Institute. It's always a great time for a good cause and this year was no exception, with Cumberland beating Orléans in the final to bring home the trophy! I was proud to sponsor the event which raised a record $18,000 in support of Team MuggleMorr and breast cancer research.
I'd also like to salute the Navan Nugget on its 200th edition! What an incredible achievement. The Navan Nugget has been a vital local lifeline for Navan, providing us with important news and updates for over 16 years. Here's to the next 200!
